Tafseer Surah Jinn (Only Allah Knows the Ghaib) Ayat 22 until 28 [note]

 Tafseer Surah Jinn

(Only Allah knows the Ghaib)

We are explaining Ayah 22 of Surah Jinn.

AYAH 22

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "None can protect me from Allâh's punishment (if I were to disobey Him), nor should I find refuge except in Him. (Al-Jinn 72:22)

Allah سبحانه وتعالىٰ, is saying some men use protection of jinn protection.

And verily, there were men among mankind who took shelter with the masculine among the jinns, but they (jinns) increased them (mankind) in sin and disbelief. (Al-Jinn 72:6)

Allah ( سبحانه وتعالىٰ,) says some people that go to the jinn for shelter, refuge and protection.
Here Allah (
سبحانه وتعالىٰ,) is saying the only protection shelter and refuge is with Allah ( سبحانه وتعالىٰ,) not the Jinn.
The jinn use was exclusive only to Prophet Sulaiman (AS).
Sulaiman's (AS) dua for a kingdom was answered.

He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower."So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed,  (Sad 38:35-36)

The wind was subjected to Sulaiman (AS)

And also the Shayatin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver, And also others bound in fetters [Saying of Allah to Sulaiman (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked." (Sad 38:37-39)

It is inappropriate for us to subdue the jinn and have them work for us or go to them for refuge. There are three types of jinn.

Abu Tha’labah al-Khushani said: “The Messenger of Allah May  said: ‘The jinn are of three types: a types that has wings, and they fly through the air; a type that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes its journey.

”Narration -By al-Tahhaawi in Mushkil al-Athaar, 4/95, and by al-Tabaraani in al-Kabeer, 22/214 [Shaykh al-Albaani said in al-Mishkaat (2/1206, no. 414 : al-Tahhaawi and Abu’l-Shaykh reported it with a saheeh isnaad]

The Prophet () also says cover your utensils

Narrated Jabir bin 'Abdullah  May Allah be pleased with him The Prophet   said, "Cover your utensils and tie your water skins, and close your doors and keep your children close to you at night, as the Jinns spread out at such time and snatch things away. When you go to bed, put out your lights, for the mischief-doer (i.e. the rat) may drag away the wick of the candle and burn the dwellers of the house." Ata said, "The devils." (instead of the Jinns) {Sahih Bukhari vol: 4: book 54 Hadith 533}

The shaitan gets loose at Maghreb time so bring your children in.

Ali said on the pulpit in the mosque of Kufah: When Friday comes, the devils go to the markets with their flags, and involve people in their needs and prevent them from the Friday prayer. [Abu Dawood 1046, Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib]

Adam as one of them enters the privy is that he should say: In the name of Allah. [This hadith has been transmitted by Tirmidhi 358 and he said: It is a gharib hadith and its isnad is not sound.]

Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib Allah's Messenger   said: The screen between the eyes of Jinn and the private parts of the sons of Adam as one of them enters the privy is that he should say: In the name of Allah. [This hadith has been transmitted by Tirmidhi 358 and he said: It is a gharib hadith and its isnad is not sound.]

We act upon this hadith by making this dua before we enter the toilet.

Allah ( سبحانه وتعالىٰ, says in the Quran that the Shaitan likes to look at the private parts of humans

Al-Tirmidhi 1019, Narrated Abu Sa'id al-Khudri the Prophet  used to seek protection against the Jinn and the evil eye till surahs al-Falaq and an-Nas were revealed. After they were revealed he stuck to them and discarded everything beside them. [Transmitted by Tirmidhi]

Tirmidhi #350 Allah's Messenger May Allah's  said: Don't cleanse yourself with dung or with bones for that is the food of your brothers from amongst the Jinn. [Transmitted by Tirmidhi, Nasa’i with this exception that he did not make mention of: The Food of your brothers from amongst the jinn.]

The jinn use to climb on each other to hear the recitation of the rasool ().

The Rasool () use to recite Surah Rahman for the jinn.

AYAH 23

"(Mine is) but conveyance (of the truth) from Allâh and His Messages (of Islâmic Monotheism), and whosoever disobeys Allâh and His Messenger, then verily, for him is the Fire of Hell, he shall dwell therein forever." (Al-Jinn 72:23)

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ,) mentions disobedience to Allah and his Messenger ().

He who obeys the Messenger (Muhammad ), has indeed obeyed Allah, but he who turns away, then we have not sent you (O Muhammad ) as a watcher over them. (An-Nisa 4:80)

When you disobey the Rasool () you disobey Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ,)

There is no difference between obedience to the Rasool () and obedience to Allah ( سبحانه وتعالىٰ,)

AYAH 24

Till, when they see that which they are promised, then they will know who it is that is weaker concerning helpers and less important concerning numbers. (Al-Jinn 72:24)

That which they are promised in the above ayah is the Hellfire.

Ilm Yaqeen means certain knowledge.

Any you aquire ilm yaqeen when you see it displaying with your own eyes.

If a. person trustworthy tells you something, it is ilm because the person is trustworthy.
A pious Muslim has no need to lie.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) spoke about seeing that which you are promised with your eyes with certainty in 102:6-7.

Verily, You shall see the blazing Fire (Hell)! And again, you shall see it with certainty of sight!  (At-Takathur 102:6-7)

Abraham wanted yaqeen so he asked Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ,) for it.

And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Qur'an is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (Al-Muddaththir 74:31)

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) made mention of numbers in this Ayah 24 because the keepers of the hell fire are 19 angels, 19 because it is a fitna for the kuffar, In order that the people could believe with certainty.

Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) says who is more important regarding numbers.

AYAH 25

Say (O Muhammad ): "I know not whether (the punishment) which you are promised is near or whether my Lord will appoint for it a distant term. (Al-Jinn 72:25)

The Prophet () was commanded to say you don't know when judgement day is.
Even prophet Jesus (as) was asked when was Judgement Day.
Muslims use this bible verse to check mate the Christians

But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:36) King James Version

Only Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) is the lord of the worlds.
If Jesus (as) is God how come he doesn't know when Judgement Day is.

AYAH 26

"(He Alone) the All-Knower of the Ghâ'ib (unseen), and He reveals to none His Ghâ'ib (unseen)."  (Al-Jinn 72:26)

AYAH 27

Except to a Messenger (from mankind) whom He has chosen (He informs him of unseen as much as He likes), and then He makes a band of watching guards (angels) to march before him and behind him. (Al-Jinn 72:27)

Only Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) knows the ghaib and he alone knows the unseen.
Example of some of the predictions of Prophet Muhammad (
).

1. When the angels came to him and said the Arabs will become rich and will compete in constructing lofty buildings

And when is the Hour?” He said, “The one who is questioned does not know more about it than the one who asks.” He asked, “Then what are its Signs?” He said, “That a maid-servant will beget her mistress and that you see barefooted, naked-bodied, helpless shepherds construct tall buildings." [Bukhari 47, Muslim 4, Tirmidhi 2619, Abu Dawud 4695, Nisai 5005,Ibn Majah 63, Ahmed 184]

2. A SLAVE WILL GIVE BIRTH TO HER MISTRESS

That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master....[Muslim]

This means there will be a total breakdown and parent child relationship.

Parents in the US can divorce parents.

3. THE PROPHET TOLD AMIR IBN YASSIR THAT HE WILL BE KILLED BY A REBELLIOUS GROUP

Umm Salamah (RA) narrated that the Messenger of Allah () said, “The transgressing party will kill 'Ammar" [Sahih Muslim (4/2236) No. 2916]

4. THE PROPHET (SAWS) TOLD HIS WIFES THAT THE ONE WITH THE LONGEST HANDS WOULD BE THE FIRST TO JOIN HIM IN PARADISE

Narrated 'Aisha: Some of the wives of the Prophet () asked him, "Who amongst us will be the first to follow you (i.e. die after you)?" He said, "Whoever has the longest hand." So they started measuring their hands with a stick and Sauda's hand turned out to be the longest. (When Zainab bint Jahsh died first of all in the caliphate of 'Umar), we came to know that the long hand was a symbol of practicing charity, so she was the first to follow the Prophet () and she used to love to practice charity. (Sauda died later in the caliphate of Muawiya). [Al-Bukhari (1420) and Muslim (2452)]

The wife with the longest hands was the kindest wife.
Allah (
) said he alone has the knowledge of the ghaib.

When Zainab bint Jahsh died a grief gripped the whole of Medina.

5. THE FIRST TO JOIN THE PROPHET () WOULD BE FATIMAH

Umm Salamah reported that Allah’s Messenger () called Fatimah (RA) in the year of the conquest and confided something to her. She wept. Then he conversed with her and she laughed. When Allah’s Messenger (RA) died, she asked her about her weeping and her laughing, she said, “Allah’s Messenger informed me that he would die, so I wept. Then, he told me that I was the chief of the women of paradise, with the exception of Maryam, daughter of Imran, so I laughed. (Tirmidhi 3919)

6. ISLAMIC SCHOLARS WOULD DISAPPEAR

Narrated By Anas: Allah's Messenger said, "From among the portents of the Hour are (the following): 1. Religious knowledge will be taken away (by the death of Religious learned men). [Al-Bukhari (80) and Muslim (2671)]

The first knowledge of law that disappeared was the Islamic law of inheritance.

Narrated Anas: I will narrate to you a Hadith and none other than I will tell you about after it. I heard Allah's Messenger () saying: From among the portents of the Hour are (the following):

4. Women will increase in number and men will decrease in number so much so that one man will look after fifty women. [Bukhari]

7. PEOPLE WILL BELIEVE CON ARTIST

AYAH 27

Except to a Messenger (from mankind) whom He has chosen (He informs him of unseen as much as He likes), and then He makes a band of watching guards (angels) to march before him and behind him. (Al-Jinn 72:27)

The purpose of sharing the knowledge with messengers is so people are convinced they are real messengers.

No fake messengers.

He shares knowledge of the unseen with Messengers.

Knowledge of Ilm al Ghaib (Unseen).Sometimes Allah () speaks to the Angels about what will happen next week, next year etc.

'Abdullah bin 'Umar (RA) said: One day the Messenger of Allah ( ﷺ) mentioned Al-Masih Dajjal (the Antichrist) in the presence of the people and said, "Verily, Allah is not one-eyed but Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal is blind in the right eye which looks like a swollen grape." [Al-Bukhari (7127) and Muslim (169)]

The jinn steal the secrets and give to fortune tellers.

Narrated `Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Messenger () about the fore-tellers He said. 'They are nothing" They said, 'O Allah's Messenger ()! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Messenger () said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it Into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies." {Sahih al-Bukhari 5762 & Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 71, Hadith 657}

For fortune tellers mix up truth with lies.
Some jinn were destroyed by shooting stars as they tried to steal the secrets.

And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shayatin (devils), and have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire. (Al-Mulk 67:5)

Soothsayers and palm readers listen to the Jinn.

Narrated `Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Messenger () about the fore-tellers He said. 'They are nothing" They said, 'O Allah's Messenger ()! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Messenger () said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) the foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies." {Sahih al-Bukhari 5762 & Bukhari Vol. 7, Book 71, Hadith 657}

The Jinn get their information from the knowledge of the heaven.

AYAH 28

[He (Allâh) protects them (the Messengers)], till He sees that they (the Messengers) have conveyed the Messages of their Lord (Allâh). And He (Allâh) surrounds all that which is with them, and He (Allâh) keeps count of all things (i.e. He knows the exact number of everything). (Al-Jinn 72:28)

O Messenger (Muhammad )! Proclaim (the Message) which has been sent down to you from your Lord. And if you do not, then you have not conveyed His Message. Allah will protect you from mankind. Verily, Allah guides not the people who disbelieve. (Al-Ma'idah 5:67)

These verses cause the Prophet (AS). To say to his bodyguards that he did not need them anymore for protection.

And We have put a barrier before them, and a barrier behind them, and We have covered them up, so that they cannot see. (Ya-Sin 36:9)

The Prophet () recited this verse and his enemies could not see him. It protected him from the plot of the Quraish.

Seven young men were planted outside the door of Muhammad ().

They planned to kill him by stabbing him.

He sprinkled dust on his head and recited 36:9

This ayah was use as a protection for the rasool () as him migrated from Mecca to Medina.

Q1? CAN A HUMAN KILL JINN BY RECITATION OF QU'RAN, AND WHAT IS THE RULING ON RAQYAH?

Anything is possible - Surah Fatiha was a cure for the snake bite.

The Raaqyee is allowed to charge money for his work.

Ibn `Abbas narrated: 'Some of the companions of the Prophet passed by some people staying at a place where there was water, and one of those people had been stung by a scorpion. A man from those staying near the water, came and said to the companions of the Prophet, "Is there anyone among you who can do Ruqya as near the water there is a person who has been stung by a scorpion." So one of the Prophet's companions went to him and recited Surat-al-Fatiha for a sheep as his fees. The patient got cured and the man brought the sheep to his companions who disliked that and said, "You have taken wages for reciting Allah's Book." When they arrived at Medina, they said, ' O Messenger of Allah! (This person) has taken wages for reciting Allah's Book" On that the Messenger of Allah said, “The thing for which you most deserve to take payment is the Book of Allah.”' [Sahih Bukhari (7/131) No. 5737]

The recitation is calling incantation

This hadith version conveys the message.

Another version exists of a snake bite to the chief of a tribe

Q2? SOMEONE SAID THAT RECITATION OF SURAH AL JINN SEVEN TIME, YOU CAN CONTROL THE JINN OR ASK HIM TO DO THINGS IS THIS TRUE?

The man that recited was an ordinary reciter

This is a statement from the Sufi and we have no evidence of that not even the Prophet Muhammad (saws) subdued the jinn.

The dua of Sulaiman (AS) is 38:35-39

To subdue the jinn is exclusive to Sulaiman (AS); nobody else

It is wrong for us to subdue Jinns

He said: "My Lord! Forgive me, and bestow upon me a kingdom such as shall not belong to any other after me: Verily, You are the Bestower." So, We subjected to him the wind, it blew gently to his order whithersoever he willed, And also the Shayatin (devils) from the jinns (including) every kind of builder and diver, And also others bound in fetters. [Saying of Allah to Sulaiman (Solomon)]: "This is Our gift, so spend you or withhold, no account will be asked." (Sad 38:35-39)

This is the famous dua of Prophet Sulaiman (as)

Allah's gift to Sulaiman (as)

Q3? IS IT TRUE THAT WE CAN ASK THE JINN TO HELP US, IN PERSONEL CAUSE?

You are not allowed to subdue the Jinn.

If the Jinn help you without you soliciting his help this is permissible.

because it took place in the time of the sahabas.

No evidence from Quran or sunnah saying that a Muslim is permitted to solicit help from the Jinn.

Please bare in mind some scholars are of the opinion that you can marry Jinn.

For you to marry a Jinn, she has to obey you.

You will end up subduing jinn - not permitted

You will have to have intercourse.

The purpose of marriage is intercourse.

The jinn are made of fire.

How can you have intercourse with fire

The jinn has to possess someone to have intercourse.

And among His Signs is this, that He created for you wives from among yourselves, that you may find repose in them, and He has put between you affection and mercy. Verily, in that are indeed signs for a people who reflect. (Ar-Rum 30:21)

Allah created for you wives of your own kind.

You have to marry your own kind.

You cannot marry anyone - they have to be a believer.

A Muslim man can marry a Christian, Jewish or Muslim because Christian and Jew are called people of the book.

Muslim women can only marry a Muslim man.

O you who believe! When believing women come to you as emigrants, examine them, Allah knows best as to their Faith, then if you ascertain that they are true believers, send them not back to the disbelievers, they are not lawful (wives) for the disbelievers nor are the disbelievers lawful (husbands) for them. But give the disbelievers that (amount of money) which they have spent [as their Mahr] to them. And there will be no sin on you to marry them if you have paid their Mahr to them. Likewise hold not the disbelieving women as wives and ask for (the return of) that which you have spent (as Mahr) and let them (the disbelievers, etc.) ask back for that which they have spent. That is the Judgement of Allah. He judges between you. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise. (Al-Mumtahinah 60:10)

60:10 is the evidence Muslim girls are not lawful for kaffir men.

Marry your own kind means you have to marry a human being.

Allah said don't take Christian girls as your girlfriend.

desiring chastity (i.e. taking them in legal wedlock) not committing illegal sexual intercourse, nor taking them as girl-friends. And whosoever disbelieves in the Oneness of Allah and in all the other Articles of Faith [i.e. His (Allah's), Angels, His Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and Al Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], then fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. (Al-Ma'idah 5:5)
