The
Story
1. The
Challenge:
An atheist challenged Muslims to a debate at the royal
palace, questioning the existence of God.
2. Abu
Hanifa's Delay:
Imam Abu Hanifa, the chosen debater, arrived late to
the confrontation.
3. The
Excuse:
When questioned about his lateness, Abu Hanifa explained that he needed to cross a river but found no boat. He described a hypothetical scenario: a tree falling, cutting itself into planks, which then assembled into a boat, crossed the river, and allowed him to arrive.
4. The
Atheist's Reaction:
The atheist dismissed this story as absurd, stating it
was impossible for such things to happen.
5. The
Counter-Argument:
Abu Hanifa then turned the logic back on the
atheist. He pointed out the contradiction: if the atheist did not believe
a simple boat could assemble itself without a maker, how could he believe that
the entire universe, with its complex components like stars, oceans, and
planets, could have formed without a creator?
6.
The Outcome:
Realizing the flaw in his own reasoning, the atheist was shocked and fled the debate.
The
Lesson
The
core of the argument is that the universe, like a boat, is too complex and
orderly to have arisen by chance. Abu Hanifa used an extreme analogy to
highlight the flaws in the atheist's logic, demonstrating that just as a boat
requires a maker, the universe requires a creator.
