SHARH OF THE 40 HADEETH OF IMAM AN NAWAWI: HADEETH NUMBER 20

HADITH NUMBER 20:

الحديث العشرون
«عن أبي مسعود عقبة بن عمرو الأنصاري البدري رضي الله عنه قال: قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم: إن مما أدرك الناس من كلام النبوة الأولى: إذا لم تستح فاصنع ما شئت» .
رواه البخاري.

On the authority of Abu Masood Uqbah bin ’Amr al-Ansaree al-Badree (RA) who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "Verily, from what was learnt by the people from the speech of the earliest prophecy is: If you feel no shame, then do as you wish." [It was related by al-Bukhari]

WHO IS UQBAH IBN 'AMIR

He was from the Ansar
-he was the youngest among those who gave the rasul (ﷺ) bay’a during al 'aqabah.
-he gave up his job as a shepherd and went to stay with Ahlu suffah.
-Abu Hurairah (r.a) was their ameer.
-this decision paid off because he became a scholar, governor and an army commander.
-he fought at Badr and his house was near the battlefield.
-but research said that his first battle was in Uhud.

Though he was poor in the beginning he became rich later on in life
-Mu’awiya used to send him to conquer lands.
-he was also a Qaari.
-he was skilful in reciting Quran that sometimes Umar (r.a).
-used to ask him to recite for him.

He was a ghazi (participated in many jihads)
-he was a fasih (an eloquent speaker).
-he was the one that Abu Ubaidah (r.a) chose to go.
-and deliver the news of the conquest of Syria.
-he only had two aims: Ilm and Jihad.
-he was always closer to the rasul (ﷺ) whenever they were in a journey.
-the rasul (ﷺ) will ask him sometimes to ride his mule.

He became ill and gathered his family
-he gave them three advices:

1. Do not quote a hadith and say the rasul (ﷺ) says so unless you are sure that it is sahih
2. Stay away from debt
3. Do not indulge in poetry at the expense of the Holy Quran

-he died in Egypt.

There is a masjid in Egypt named after him
-he narrated 102 hadith, 9 of which are in both Bukhari and Muslim.

THIS HADITH (NUMBER 20) IS A WARNING TO THE UMMAH:

1. IF YOU FEEL NO SHAME THAT MEANS YOU HAVE NO TAQWA

2. LET YOUR GOOD CONSCIENCE BE YOUR GUIDE

Allāh does not like that the evil should be uttered in public except by him who has been wronged. And Allāh is Ever All¬-Hearer, All¬-Knower. (An-Nisa 4:148)

Abu Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: "Faith has over seventy branches or over sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the, removal of what is injurious from the path: and modesty is the branch of faith." [Al-Bukhari (8) and Muslim (56)]

3. SWEARING IS NOT THE BEHAVIOUR OF A MUSLIM
-people in darul harb feel that as long as they don't swear, you can't understand them.
-Allah (سبحانه وتعالىٰ) told you to lower your voice when you speak.

"And be moderate (or show no insolence) in your walking, and lower your voice. Verily, the harshest of all voices is the voice (braying) of the ass." (Luqman 31:19)

-a modest woman doesn't raise her voice
-the kuffaar lost it
-they even break wind in public
-this is shameful and is beneath Muslims

The women of the UK, when they have an affair with an influential/famous person
-they sell the story to the media.
-they go to details about the affair and earn more money.
-an Asian Muslim woman also did this to a manager of the England football club.
-this is because she was tainted by the filth in darul harb.
-this is what happens to you if you live in darul harb.
-if you don't practice the deen.
-many people in darul harb have lost their shame and are apostates.

In countries like India, Pakistan, Africa, Saudi Arabia etc. people also have affairs
-but they don't publish their affairs to the media.
-because she cares about her Izza (honour) and that of her family.
-there is no newspaper that will even publish such a story.
-THE EDITOR WILL BE DEAD!
-in Europe, these are the stories that sell.

-the women in Europe measure their izza by their bank balance.
-so they will do anything to increase the balance.

The wife of J.F. Kennedy appeared in a newspaper naked
-the wives of the apostate leaders don't even do that.
-even though they may not be Muslims.

Kuffaar men have shower together naked after a football match
-this is haram in Islam.
-only your spouse can see your private part.

Bahz ibn Hakim reported from his father who from his grandfather that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ): 'from whom they should conceal their awrah and from whom not?' He said, “Guard your awrah except from your wife and what your right hand possesses (female slaves).” He asked, “O Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) what when people are with each other?” He said, “If it is possible that no one may observe your private parts, see that none sees them.” He asked, “O Prophet (ﷺ) of Allah what if one of us is alone?” He said, “But Allah has more right that people should be ashamed before Him.” [Sunan Tirmidhi (5/97) No. 2769, Sunan Abu Dawud (4/40) No. 4017, Musnad Ahmad (5/3) No. 20046]

A believer hides his sins but the kuffaar broadcast them
-the concept of shame is not among the kuffaar.
-their society is morally bankrupt, spiritually empty and ethically perverse.

He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" (Al-Balad 90:6)

-a believer hides his sins and as a result the rasul (ﷺ) said only those who make their sins public won't be forgiven.

Abu Hurayrah said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ) say: “All of my ummah will be forgiven except those who sin openly. It is a part of sinning openly when a man does something at night, then the following morning when Allaah has concealed his sin, he says, ‘O So and so, I did such and such last night,’ when all night his Lord has concealed him and the next morning he uncovers what Allaah had concealed.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5721; Muslim, 2990)

Narrated By Al-Harith bin Suwaid: 'Abdullah bin Mas'ud related to us two narrations: One from the Prophet (ﷺ) and the other from himself, saying: A believer sees his sins as if he were sitting under a mountain which, he is afraid, may fall on him; whereas the wicked person considers his sins as flies passing over his nose and he just drives them away like this." Abu Shihab (the sub-narrator) moved his hand over his nose in illustration. (Ibn Mas'ud added): Allah's Apostle said, "Allah is more pleased with the repentance of His slave than a man who encamps at a place where his life is jeopardized, but he has his riding beast carrying his food and water. He then rests his head and sleeps for a short while and wakes to find his riding beast gone. (He starts looking for it) and suffers from severe heat and thirst or what Allah wished (him to suffer from). He then says, 'I will go back to my place.' He returns and sleeps again, and then (getting up), he raises his head to find his riding beast standing beside him." [Sahih Bukhari, Vol 8, Book 75, Hadith #320]

If you have no shame, we dare you:
-go to the brothel,
-massage parlour or a gay nightclub

Some Muslims joined the gay movement
-this is because these people live in darul harb and were turned to scums of the earth
-darul harb can turn you to a human devil

This hadith is prove that tauheed, morale and ethics can't be abrogated
-abrogation only takes place with regards to fiqh
-we were all born with shyness
-Adam and Hawa covered their privacy even though no one was there
-this shows that we are naturally shy

Then they both ate of the tree, and so their private parts appeared to them, and they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray. (Ta-Ha 20:121)

-so for a man or woman walking in the street naked would be labelled as mad.
-even in darul harb, this is an offence.

The kuffaar know that Muslims are very sensitive about their private parts
-this is why they strip the mujahideen naked when they capture them.
-whether man or woman.

-the kaafirs needs to adjust their offending behaviour.

Anas (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Every religion has a particular manner or characteristic. And the characteristic of Islam is Hayaa.” [Sunan Ibn Majah (5/276) No. 4181]

-the special characteristic of this ummah is al haya (modesty and shyness).
-if you feel no shame we dare you to do anything.

Apartheid regime of Israel is so shameful
-and because the kuffaar are all the same they are all giving unconditional support to Israel.
-you preach democracy yet you support Israel.

Emaan gives you haya and haya keeps you away from shameful deeds
-therefore Europe is a shameless society.
-Allah (swt) described them as below the cattle.

Or do you think that most of them hear or understand? They are only like cattle; nay, they are even farther astray from the Path. (i.e. even worst than cattle). (Al-Furqan 25:44)


THE THREE TYPES OF SOULS

1. Nafs Lawwaama (the rebuking soul)

2. Nafs Mutma'inna (the tranquil soul)

3. Nafs Ammaara (prone to evil)
-this is the soul that the kuffaar of Europe have.
-in the 42nd street and 5th Avenue in NY people commit zina openly and they pay to watch.

Say (O Muhammad ﷺ): "(But) the things that my Lord has indeed forbidden are Al¬Fawāhish (great evil sins, every kind of unlawful sexual intercourse, etc.) whether committed openly or secretly, sins (of all kinds), unrighteous oppression, joining partners (in worship) with Allāh for which He has given no authority, and saying things about Allāh of which you have no knowledge." (Al-A'raf 7:33)

There are two types of haya: the one you were born with and the one nurtured
-when you give your kids good Islamic upbringing you are nurturing their haya.

The media of the kuffaar is all about taking away from you your haya
-they make movies to glorify all the shameful deeds under the heaven.
-they frown upon decency.

Sins erode haya (83:14)

Nay! But on their hearts is the Rān (covering of sins and evil deeds) which they used to earn. (Al-Mutaffifin 83:14)

-when you commit the sin for the 1st time it bothers you.
-but repeated actions erode your haya and you are no longer bothered about it.

Abu Huraira (RA) narrated the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Hayaa is part of Imaan and Imaan is in Paradise. Lewdness is part of hardness of heart and hardness of heart is in the Fire.” [Musnad Ahmad (2/501) No. 10519]

Bahz ibn Hakim reported from his father who from his grandfather that he asked the Prophet (ﷺ): 'from whom they should conceal their awrah and from whom not?' -if a married woman is shy on the wedding night that is accepted.
-but after some time she needs to abandon this shyness and please her husband.

Abu Sa'id Khudri reported that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) was more modest than the virgin behind the curtain (or in the apartment), and when he disliked anything, we recognised that from his face. [Al-Bukhari (6102) and Muslim (5739)]

Narrated By Abu Huraira: Allah's Apostle ﷺ said, "(The Prophet) Moses was a shy person and used to cover his body completely because of his extensive shyness. One of the children of Israel hurt him by saying, 'He covers his body in this way only because of some defect in his skin, either leprosy or scrotal hernia, or he has some other defect.' Allah wished to clear Moses of what they said about him, so one day while Moses was in seclusion, he took off his clothes and put them on a stone and started taking a bath. When he had finished the bath, he moved towards his clothes so as to take them, but the stone took his clothes and fled; Moses picked up his stick and ran after the stone saying, 'O stone! Give me my garment!' Till he reached a group of Bani Israel who saw him naked then, and found him the best of what Allah had created, and Allah cleared him of what they had accused him of. The stone stopped there and Moses took and put his garment on and started hitting the stone with his stick. By Allah, the stone still has some traces of the hitting, three, four or five marks. This was what Allah refers to in His Saying: "O you who believe! Be you not like those Who annoyed Moses, But Allah proved his innocence of that which they alleged, And he was honorable In Allah's Sight." (33.69) [Sahih Bukhari (4/156-157) No. 3404]

-Musa (a.s) was also shy.

LESSONS FROM THE HADITH OF TODAY

1. MODESTY IS A NOBLE ATTRIBUTE FOUND IN ALL THE PREVIOUS UMMAH AND ALL THE PREVIOUS PROPHETS

2. SHYNESS IS A SIGN OF EMAAN

3. BASHFULNESS AND EMAAN IS THE OPPOSITE OF INDECENCY AND INDECENCY IS SIGN THAT THE PERSON HAS NO EMAAN

4. WE SHOULD NOT MISCONSTRUE SHYNESS AS COWARDICE

5. THERE IS NO SHYNESS WHEN TEACHING THE DEEN

...'A'isha said: How good are the women of Ansar (helpers) that their shyness does not prevent them from learning religion. [Sahih Muslim (1/261) No. 332]

-if Umm Sulaim bint Milhan (r.a) didn't ask about the wet dream of a woman.
-she won't have benefited the women of the ummah.
-if you are a talibul ilm, you can't be shy, proud or impatient.

Umm Salamah (RA) said that Umm Sulaym bint Milhan (RA) came to the 'Prophet (ﷺ) and said, "Messenger of Allah! Allah is not ashamed of the truth. Is it wajib for a woman to have a bath if she has sexual dream as a man does?" He said, "Yes, when she sees signs of mani (discharge), she must have a bath." Umm Salamah (RA) said that she remarked, "O 'Umm Sulaym! You have disgraced women." [Tirmidhi 122, Ahmed 26675, Bukhari 282, Ibn e Majah 600, Muslim 313, Abu Dawud 237, Nisai 197]


6. THERE IS NO SHYNESS BETWEEN HUSBAND AND WIFE IN THE BEDROOM
-a woman is supposed to fulfil all sexual fantasies of her husband provided they are halal.

7. THERE IS NO ABROGATION WITH REGARDS TO MORALE ETHICS AND TAUHEED

8. A SOCIETY WITH NO SHYNESS IS UNGODLY AND IS DOOMED AND BOUND TO FAIL
