TAFSEER SURAH IKHLAS
This
topic can also be referred to as the Islamic concept of God.
Surah Ikhlas is equal to a third of the Qur'an.
Narrated By Abu Said Al-Khudri: A man heard another man reciting
(Surat-Al-Ikhlas) 'Say He is Allah, (the) One.' (112. 1) repeatedly the next
morning he came to Allah's Apostle and informed him about it as if he thought
that it was not enough to recite. On that Allah's Apostle said, "By Him in
Whose Hand my life is, this Surah is equal to one-third of the Qur'an!"
[Sahih Bukhari, Vol 6, Book 61, Hadith #533]
Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)): "He is Allah, (the)
One. (Al-Ikhlas 112:1)
CAUSES OF REVELATION
The
pagans of Makkah used to use the name Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala).
The Prophet's fathers name was Abdullah.
Abraham built the kaaba for them and taught them Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala).
Paganism was introduced to them by someone later.
The Arabs used to think the angels were the daughters of Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala).
The Arabs approached the Prophet (ﷺ) and asked for Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala) to be
described to them.
This is when Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) revealed Surah Ikhlas.
AYAH 1
Say (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) : "He is Allah, (the)
One. (Al-Ikhlas 112:1)
This
first verse is refuting Christianity.
Christians believe in trinity: god the father, god the son and god the holy
spirit.
They gathered at the council of
Nicaea and introduced trinity.
Christians are pagans.
Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) made takfeer of Christians in Surah 5:72-73.
Surely, they have disbelieved who say: "Allah is the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)], son of Maryam (Mary)." But the Messiah ['Iesa (Jesus)] said: "O Children of Israel! Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord." Verily, whosoever sets up partners in worship with Allah, hen Allah has forbidden Paradise for him, and the Fire will be his abode. And for the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers) there are no helpers. Surely, disbelievers are those who said: "Allah is the third of the three (in a Trinity)." But there is no ilah (god) (none who has the right to be worshipped) but One Ilah (God -Allah). And if they cease not from what they say, verily, a painful torment will befall the disbelievers among them. (Al-Ma'idah 5:72-73)
Ubayy bin Ka'b that the idolaters said to the Prophet "O Muhammad! Tell us the lineage of your Lord." So Allah revealed Say: "He is Allah, One. Allah He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is non comparable to Him." [Musnad Ahmad (5/133) No. 21257]
The
very first ayah of Surah Ikhlas means Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) has no partners or
associates.
The worst crime is Shirk.
You are a muwahid (monotheist).
You are not a polytheist.
You worship one God.
You
single out Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) for worship.
You are unique in that regard.
Because the worst crime is to worship a false deity, Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) told you:
Verily, Allah forgives not that partners should be set up with him in worship, but He forgives except that (anything else) to whom He pleases, and whoever sets up partners with Allah in worship, he has indeed invented a tremendous sin. (An-Nisa 4:48)
The
ayah means if you die in a state of shirk you will never be forgiven.
If you repent from your
polytheism before you die, there is hope for you because Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala)
forgives all sins.
The very first verse of Surah Ikhlas refutes the Christians who believe Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) is a third in trinity.
AYAH
2
"Allah-us-Samad (The Self-Sufficient Master, Whom all
creatures need, He neither eats nor drinks). (Al-Ikhlas
112:2)
It also
refutes those who believe Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) appeared on earth in the form
of a man.
The word As-Samad means Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala) is a
first without a beginning and the last without an ending.
You have a digestive system and
a nervous system.
Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala)
doesn't have these systems.
As-Samad means Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala)
doesn't die.
Concerning
the statement that Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) is one, Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala) said
if there was more than one God, the heavens and the earth would have been
destroyed.
Each god would want to accomplish another thing.
When there is an argument, none
of the gods would have backed down.
It is not permissible for Allah
(Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) to create another creation and give him the same powers as
Himself because there would be chaos.
If there was more than one god, each god would
have taken away what he created.
This is why there is only one God governing the universe.
AYAH 3
"He begets not, nor was He begotten; (Al-Ikhlas 112:3)
When the Catholics say Holy
Mary, mother of God, they are trying to say god came from the womb of a woman.
The human intellect will never accept
Catholicism.
Allah (Subhana Allah
wa ta'ala) does
not beget children.
When the desert Arabs says the angels are the daughter of Allah, (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) that doesn't make sense.
You are living in a Christian
society and you hear people saying that Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) begot.
The word begets means to
impregnate by way of intercourse.
And they say: "The Most Beneficent (Allah) has begotten a son (or offspring or children) [as the Jews say: 'USAir (Ezra) is the son of Allah, and the Christians say that He has begotten a son ['Iesa (Christ)], and the pagan Arabs say that He has begotten daughters (angels, etc.)]." Indeed you have brought forth (said) a terrible evil thing. Whereby the heavens are almost torn, and the earth is split asunder, and the mountains fall in ruins, (Maryam 19:88-90)
That they ascribe a son (or offspring or children) to the Most
Beneficent (Allah). But it is not suitable for (the Majesty of) the Most
Beneficent (Allah) that He should beget a son (or offspring or children).
(Maryam 19:91-92)
He is the Originator of the heavens and the earth. How can He have children when He has no wife? He created all things and He is the All-Knower of everything. (Al-An'am 6:101)
People say Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) has
the ability to do anything so why can't he have a son.
There are things that are haraam for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to do.
It is haraam for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to
lie.
It is haraam for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to
oppress.
It is haraam for Allah ((سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to
beget a son.
.“Oh, my servants! I have made oppression haraam (forbidden) upon
myself, and also between you. So do not oppress each other...." [Sahih
Muslim, Hadith #6246]
It is haraam for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to
break a promise to His servants.
Even though everything is
possible for Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ), some things are haraam for Him to do.
Just because you are living in a society where you hear people saying Allah (Subhana Allah wa ta'ala) begot a son, this doesn't mean that you should become desensitised to this lie.
AYAH
4
"And there is none co-equal or comparable unto Him."
(Al-Ikhlas 112:4)
You see
and Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) sees but Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is the All-Seeing.
Allah's (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) attributes
are infinite.
Yours are finite.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) can
see in the dark.
The Hindus celebrate Diwali.
Ram, a Hindu god, needed light to see in the dark.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) doesn't
need light to see in the dark.
A doctor needs equipment.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) doesn't need equipment to hear the beat of his slave.
You
can't make Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) similar to His creation.
If you do so you have become a
pagan in your mind.
Ayah 4 refutes the argument of
the Christians who claim Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) came on earth in the form of
Jesus.
This
also refutes the nation of Islam who believes Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) came
on earth in the form of a man.
Messenger in the above ayah means angel.
CHRISTIANITY
Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. (John 14:28) King James Version
We have
Bible verses to refute the Christians who believe Jesus was God.
No prophet would ever equate himself to the Creator.
And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? [there is] none good but one, [that is], God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. (Matthew 19:17) King James Version
No Prophet was a pagan so he wouldn't put himself on the same even keel as the creator.
Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God. (John 20:17) King James Version
All these Bible verses are evidence that Jesus is saying one thing and the Christians are saying another thing.
I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me. (John 5:30) King James Version
This is hypocrisy to the highest order.
But of that day and hour knoweth no [man], no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. (Matthew 24:36) King James Version
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is
Master of the Day of Judgment.
If so, how can someone be Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) and not know when Judgment Day is.
And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry: (Mark 11:12) King James Version
And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. (Mark 11:13) King James Version
How can you be God and not know when it is the season for figs?
And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape. (John 5:37) King James Version
The
above Bible verse is the knockout punch for the Christians.
If Jesus was God, his disciples
would have heard Him and seen Him.
The hypocrisy of the Christians is excruciating and nauseating.
The stench of their hypocrisy is unbearable in the nostrils of all the sincere
people in the world.
People like to say: is there really a God?
A DIALOGUE WITH AN ATHEIST
1. THE
SUN
The
atheist wants you to believe the world came about by accident.
We refute the atheist by saying the sun is situated above our heads
meticulously.
If it was too close to us we would have died from intense heat.
If it was further away from us we would have frozen to death.
If the world came about by accident, the sun wouldn't have been meticulously situated
at a point to sustain life.
2. THE ALTERNATION OF NIGHT AND DAY
Verily! In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of night and day, there are indeed signs for men of understanding. (Aali Imran 3:190)
Those who remember Allah (always, and in prayers) standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and think deeply about the creation of the heavens and the earth, (saying) : "Our Lord! You have not created (all) this without purpose, glory to You! (Exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners). Give us salvation from the torment of the Fire. (Aali Imran 3:191)
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) said
that the alternation of night and day is a sign for the atheist.
If the world had come about by
accident, we would have had 10 years of night alone or 20 years of day alone.
If it had come about by accident, it wouldn't run in accordance to order and perfection.
3. THE FOUR SEASONS OF THE YEAR
The
alternation of these seasons is another argument against the atheists.
If the world came about by
accident, why do we see these seasons every year.
4. WE ALL HAVE A DIFFERENT DNA
5. WE ALL HAVE A DIFFERENT FINGERPRINT
Even though we are over 6
billion people in the world, we have a different DNA, a different fingerprint
and a different iris.
Every human being is unique in
his own way because we were intelligently designed.
The creationists have a mountain
of evidence and the atheists have no evidence.
Now that we have established
that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) exists, the next question is:
WHERE IS ALLAH?
There
are many answers given for this question.
Some people say Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is
everywhere.
Some say Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is
nowhere.
They say this because they
don't want to limit Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) to a time or place.
Some say Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is in
heaven.
All these three answers are wrong.
The only correct answer to this answer is that Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is on
above His throne above the seven heavens.
The Most Beneficent (Allah) Istawa (rose over) the (Mighty)
Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). (Ta-Ha 20:5)
Do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will
not cause the earth to sink with you, then behold it shakes (as in an
earthquake)? (Al-Mulk 67:16)
Any
other answer is considered zandaqa (heresy).
We say to those who say Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is everywhere, are you saying Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is in the brothel, the pigsty and the toilet?
You are insulting Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
The knowledge of Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is everywhere.
We refer to Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) as 'He' because Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) referred to Himself as He.
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) also referred to Himself as 'We'. This is called the royal We or the majestic We.
Sometimes
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) referred to himself as Us.
The Us is Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
So don't get confused and think
there is more than one Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ).
it is narrated that the companion Mu'awiyah ibn al-Hakam, (RA) slapped his servant girl who used to tend his sheep, and as a result went to the Prophet (ﷺ) and asked what should be done as an atonement for having slapped her. The Prophet replied, "Bring her to me" so Mu'awiyah brought her to the Prophet. The Prophet then asked her, "Where is Allah?" and she replied "Above the Sky" then the Prophet asked her, "Who am I?" and she replied, "You are Allah’s Messenger", so the Prophet said, "Free her, for verily she is a true believer." [Sahih Muslim (1/381) No. 537]
A Sufi,
a tableeghi, Shiite or a barelvi will say to keep her in captivity because
Allah (سُبْحَانَهُ وَتَعَالَىٰ) is not above the heavens.
He is everywhere.
QUESTION
AND ANSWER SESSION
QUESTION 1 WHAT IS THE PERSONALITY OF ALLAH? IS ALLAH A VIOLENT GOD?
ANSWER 1:
Allah (SWT) revealed 99 names and attributes, so that
you can understand His characteristics
example: Allah (SWT) is ar-Rahman (the All-Merciful)
Allah (SWT) is al-Kareem (the Most Kind)
Allah (SWT) is al-Maalik (the Absolute Ruler)
Allah (SWT) is al-Muhaymin (the Guardian), etc.
Allah (SWT)
is most Kind but severe in punishment, He wants to a balance state of fear and
hope
On
the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA), who said that the Messenger of Allah (SAW)
said: "When Allah decreed the Creation He pledged Himself by writing in
His book which is laid down with Him: 'My mercy prevails over my wrath.'"
[Muslim (also by al-Bukhari, an-Nasa'i and Ibn Majah)]
Allah
(SWT) can be violent; example of this is the destruction of the people of Sodom
and Gomorrah and the people of Noah.
Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allah, but whatever of
evil befalls you, and is from yourself. And We have sent you (O Muhammad SAW)
as a Messenger to mankind, and Allah is Sufficient as a Witness. (An-Nisa 4:79)
However, Allah's (SWT) Mercy is much
more than His Anger
Allah (SWT) might send his destruction to a nation that transgresses other,
example the illegal invasion of Iraq.
Allah (SWT) sent hurricane katrina
so sins bring His anger
this is why we don't see natural
destruction in Mecca and Medina
so Allah (SWT) is the Most Just
Anas said: One of the Ansar used to lead the Ansar in Salat in
the Quba' masjid and it was his habit to recite Qul Huwal-lahu Ahad whenever he
wanted to recite something in Salat. When he finished that Surah, he would
recite another one with it. He followed the same procedure in each Rak'a. His
companions discussed this with him and said,
"You
recite this Surah and do not consider it sufficient and then you recite
another. So would you recite it alone or leave it and recite some other."
He said, "I will never leave it and if you want me to be your Imam on this
condition then it is all right; otherwise I will leave you." They knew
that he was the best amongst them and they did not like someone else to lead
them in Salat.
When
the Prophet (SAW) went to them as usual, they informed him about it. The
Prophet (SAW) addressed him and said, "O so-and-so, what forbids you from
doing what your companions ask you to do? Why do you read this Surah
particularly in every Rak'a?" He repiled, "I love this Surah."
The Prophet (SAW) said, "Your love for this Surah will make you enter
Paradise."
[Sahih
Bukhari (1/155)]
Sa’id
Ibn Abi Sakinah states that he heard the following hadith from Ali Ibn Abi
Talib. He saw a person writing bismillah and said to him, “Write it beautifully
for the person who writes it beautifully will be forgiven.” [Tafseer al-Qurtubi
(Vol. 1, pg. 91) and al-Tuyuriyat (Vol. 3, pg. 932)]
Abu
Huraira narrated the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said: "Faith has over
seventy branches or over sixty branches, the most excellent of which is the
declaration that there is no god but Allah, and the humblest of which is the,
removal of what is injurious from the path: and modesty is the branch of
faith."
[al-Bukhari
(8) and Muslim (56)]
- Small good deeds, that you think are
miniscule, that may be the deed that takes you to Paradise
Ibn 'Umar reported that the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said,
"A woman was punished on account of a cat which she shut up until it died
and she entered the Fire. She neither fed it nor gave it anything to drink when
she confined it nor did she allow it to eat the earth's rodents and
insects."
[al-Bukhari
(2365) and Muslim (2242)]
Narrated
by Abu Huraira the Messenger of Allah (SAW) said, "A prostitute was
forgiven by Allah, because, passing by a panting dog near a well and seeing
that the dog was about to die of thirst, she took off her shoe, and tying it
with her head-cover she drew out some water for it. So, Allah forgave her
because of that."
[Sahih
Bukhari (4/130) No. 3321]
-
A woman who caged a cat harshly, received Hellfire and another woman who fed a
dog water, received Paradise.
- Hence something that you may think is miniscule
might take you to Paradise or Hell

QUESTION
3: CAN MUSLIM TELL LIES?
ANSWER 3:
- A Muslim can tell lies in 3 occasions
...Ibn
Shihab said he did not hear that exemption was granted in anything what the
people speak as lie but in three cases: in battle, for bringing reconciliation
amongst persons and the narration of the words of the husband to his wife, and
the narration of the words of a wife to her husband (in a twisted form in order
to bring reconciliation between them).
[Sahih
Muslim, Book 32, Hadith #6303]
- A Muslim in the battlefield
- To reconcile 2 Muslims in an argument/dispute
- Or to save a marriage
QUESTION 4: WHAT IS OUR OPINION OF THE CURRENT DAY FITNAH IN SYRIA?

ANSWER
4
-This is a question of aqeedah
FSA = democrats
ISIS = Islamists
- Some mujahideen are democrats others
are islamists
- This is 2
different religion
- There is no
hatred like religious hatred
They had nothing against them, except that they believed in
Allah, the All-Mighty, Worthy of all Praise!
(Al-Buruj
85:8)
QUESTION
5: SHAYKH SALAM... PLEASE TELL US MORE ABOUT THE TAGHOUT... AND HOW IT EXISTS
IN TODAY'S SOCIETIES? THANKS
ANSWER 5
- The word taghout means false deities
- Anything worshiped other than Allah (SWT) is taghout
Umar
said, “al-Jibt is magic, and the Taghoot is the Shaitan.” [Sahih Bukhari
(6/45)]
-
Taghout is also the tyrants who governing the world right now such as Pharaoh,
Tony Blair, Bush, etc... are taghout
- Taghout is also the kafir army
Those
who believe fight in the Cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve, fight in the
cause of Taghut (Satan, etc.). So fight you against the friends of Shaitan
(Satan); Ever feeble indeed is the plot of Shaitan (Satan). (An-Nisa 4:76)
-
his common sense told him not to fight for the taghout
- taghout is also kafir court house
Have
you seen those (hyprocrites) who claim that they believe in that which has been
sent down to you, and that which was sent down before you, and they wish to go
for judgement (in their disputes) to the Taghut (false judges, etc.) while they
have been ordered to reject them. But Shaitan (Satan) wishes to lead them far
astray. (An-Nisa 4:60)
- you are only allowed to accept shariah
law, not man made law
And
whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed - then it is those who are
the disbelievers. (Al-Ma'idah 5:44) [Sahih International]
-
it is impossible to be a Muslim until you reject the taghout
- the shahada is negation and affirmation, negate
that there is no deities then affirm only Allah
Whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah, and then he
has grasped the most trustworthy handhold that will never break. And Allah is
All-Hearer, All-Knower.
(Al-Baqarah
2:256)
- biggest mistake today is Muslims are told to
believe in Allah
- but not to reject the taghout
- this causes a tauheed problem
If
you invoke (or call upon) them, they hear not your call, and if (in case) they
were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of
Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you
(O Muhammad SAW) like Him Who is the All Knower (of each and everything) [].
(Fatir 35:14)
